This photo makes the subject look like she's sitting up, but in fact she was parallel to the ground & at first glance the flower petals on her back give the impression of feathers. 

Something to remember - although a camera is limited by what is visible through the lens, the final image can be manipulated into misrepresentation just as easily as a painting (before you even open Photoshop). By taking advantage of perspective, framing & light, you can make an image say what you want. Most imagery is full of little white lies.
